Youth congress in Tuscany - A JOURNEY THROUGH HISTORY, NATURE AND TRADITION

Michelangelo and Leonardo: both were geniuses, in art and science. In the marvelous landscape of Tuscany you can find art, nature and culture side by side. During the Youth Congress you’ll visit two of the most important artistic cities of Tuscany as Pisa and Florence, but we’ll show you even a new way of looking at them… as a geologist could do, finding out which kind of rocks were used for their magnificent monuments and the fossils concealed in them, as ammonites and sea urchins…

You’ll walk through the wild Apuane Alps, discovering the beauty of the outer and inner landscape (as the Corchia Cave, the largest karst complexin Italy) just where the famous Italian marble quarries lie (can you imagine Michelangelo choosing the raw blocks for his masterpieces?) and you’ll see a marble beauty, as the famous David in Florence.

You’ll visit the Migliarino-San Rossore Park, encased between the Tyrrhenian sea and the Massaciuccoli Lake, famous for its tapestry of colours, its variety of plants and animals, its natural beauty, where you can follow its horse-tracks on typical carriages drawn by horses. Here in the Park, alongside the lake, the “maestro” Giacomo Puccini, a famous Opera composer, spent some time (his house is nowadays a musem).

Finally, at the Museum of Geology and Palaeontology of Florence you’ll see past landscapes of Tuscany, when “strange” monkeys (as the worldwide famous Oreopithecus) were leaping amongst the branches of wetland forests and rhinoceros, elephants and sabre-toothed tigers were struggling for survival…
