Mediterranean Consortium

Information on the Consortium can be obtained from Italian representatives:
William Cavazza (cavazza@geomin.unibo.it)
Bruno D’Argenio (dargenio@gms01.geomare.na.cnr.it)

The Mediterranean Consortium is an association of thirty-one Mediterranean and nearby countries that have contributed to the definition of the scientific program of the 32nd IGC. Each member country nominated a National Representative who served as a liaison between his/her national geological community and the IGC Organizing Committee. The National Representatives disseminated information on the Congress and stimulated the submission
of proposals for scientific sessions, short courses, workshops and field trips from their national Earth Sciences
communities.

The Mediterranean Consortium has also generated the TRANSMED Project, an international scientific research program which brought together about a hundred structural geologists, geophysicists, petrologists, sedimentologists, stratigraphers, paleogeographers, and petroleum geologists coming from seventeen countries and working for the petroleum industry, academia, and other institutions, both public and private. The results of the TRANSMED Project are contained in the TRANSMED Atlas, a volume-cum-CD published by Springer Verlag which will be officially presented and released during the Congress.
The TRANSMED Project represents the main scientific initiative of the Mediterranean Consortium. Information on the TRANSMED Project can be obtained at: http://www2.unibas.it/transmed/index.htm.
